Hmm... Hand Made Music Festival |
|
BEN KOLAITIS is one of the organsisers and curators for HMM… HANDMADE MUSIC FESTIVAL. He is a Melbourne based instrument builder currently working with electronics and programming in developing sound scultures, invented instruments and improvised performances. Conceptually Ben’s focus is to engage the audience to interact with his sculptures and instruments by developing new forms of gestural controls and interactive tools.
These unique interactive tools include controlling synthesisers through organic materials such as fruit, light, graphite drawings and touch, and contolling sound, light and video through handmade midi gestural controls. At the recent Melbourne Fringe Festival, Ben created a midi controlled drum patch that was connected to the Melbourne Town Hall Pipe Organ and a live Drum Kit, which allowed a drummer to play the Drum Kit and the Pipe Organ simultaneously. Ben has also created sculptures and unique handmade electronic instruments for Next Wave festival, Liquid Architecture and the Melbourne Fringe festival.
He is also currently collaborating with Alex Cuffe on a new work titled CREO NOVA for the Next Wave 2012 festival.
